Rahm Emanuel announced at a press conference Tuesday $300 million in new improvements for the Chicago Transit Authority -- all for downtown and the near downtown area. Speaking at a press conference regarding the revamped Grand Red Line station, just north of the loop, Emanuel said that CTA would construct a new Green Line station at Cermak and Wabash avenues, just by the McCormick Place Convention Center. CTA also plans to build a new station at Washington and Wabash avenues, to replace two aging stations at Randolph and Madison.
Non-downtown capital projects from the CTA, like a South Side extension of the Red Line past 95th St., are still in the planning stages.
