Democratic candidate for the 8th congressional district Tammy Duckworth has gained the endorsement of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) International, with the support of Local 881 and Local 1546. The union announced its endorsement earlier today at a Jewel supermarket in the district.
"Tammy Duckworth's honest compassion for the plight of working families combined with her distinguished careers in the military and political arenas have earned her our union's endorsement," stated UFCW Local 1546 President and International Vice President Kenneth R. Boyd in a press release. "We need to elect strong leaders like Tammy Duckworth in Congress who will stick together with workers and remain committed to resolving the many economic challenges that face our nation, state and local communities."
The 8th congressional district is currently being represented by U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R), who will run against Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren in the 14th congressional district. Duckworth is going up against candidate Raja Krishnamoorthi in the Democratic primary.
