The effort to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is officially underway today as Democrats spread across the state to get signatures for the petition drive. In order to successfully force a recall election on the freshman governor, more than 540,000 valid signatures will have to be collected over the next 60 days. Recall Walker rallies are set to begin this evening and will continue throughout the week across Wisconsin, with a large rally planned at the State Capitol in Madison on Saturday.
There have been no Democrats named as an opponent for Walker should the appropriate number of signatures be collected, thereby forcing a recall. Some names that have been tossed around as potential opponents for the Republican governor include U.S. Rep. Dave Obey, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, and State Sen. Jon Erpenbach.
