The SIUC Faculty Association (SIUC FA) has announced that they have signed a tenative agreement with the university. The union was on strike for about a week, announcing its end early Thursday morning. Professors and teaching staff were back in classrooms that same day.
"This tentative agreement marks real progress in areas the Faculty Association is vitally concerned about—shared governance, academic freedom, and transparency and accountability," said FA spokesperson Dave Johnson. "While we are disappointed that it took a strike to make this progress, we are hopeful that the strong support for SIUC faculty shown by the whole SIUC community, particularly by our students, will provide a positive foundation for the future. It's time for all of us—faculty, staff, students, and administrators—to work together as partners to ensure a bright future for SIUC."
