Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced plans for the Chicago Public Schools to create a ratings system for city-funded pre-schools. The five-star scale will be available online next July and will, according to Emanuel, help determine which schools get more funding, with the best performers getting additional monies.
"Throughout the system, you will have an educational standard," Emanuel said, according to the CHicago Tribune. "Whether it's daycare system, Headstart or CPS-administered."
An advisory panel, that is commissioned to work on the effort full time, will perform evaluations on the pre-schools to determine how many stars they should receive.
