Emanuel Stands Against Guns With Alliance Of Mayors

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is taking a stand against guns by joining the bipartisan alliance, Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The group, which has over 600 mayors among its members, advocates for better gun tracking and accountability for offenders. According to a release, Emanuel also supports what he calls "common-sense gun legislation" at the state level, including bans on concealed carry and assault weapons, hand gun titling and fee, universal background checks.

The issue of gun control hits home for the mayor. In Chicago, 80 percent of murder victims died by gunshot and the Illinois is the only state with a concealed carry ban.

The sheeple of Chicago really screwed themselves -- again -- with the election of Thug Emanuel and his hired thug from New Jersey, Gerry McCarthy. The rest of the country is enjoying plunging violent crime rates since 49 out of 50 states have enacted concealed carry provisions. Only Chicago, state of Illinois, Washington DC, San Francisco, New York City and a short list of holdout jurisdictions continue to suffer with their old, failed, and draconian gun control laws of the past that embolden criminals and leave honest citizens helpless and defenseless.

Instead of listening to Michael Bloomberg's "very partisan" Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Violence Policy Center, and the Brady Campaign, the people of Chicago might want to refer to the U.S. Justice Department's own National Institute of Justice /Bureau of Justice Statistics, and the Annual FBI Uniform Crime Report which show that where law abiding citizens with minimum mandated training are allowed to keep and bear arms in and out of their homes, there are fewer violent crimes and fewer gun accidents. The DOJ NIJ/BJS and FBI studies coincide with concealed carry provisions as they were implemented over the past 20 years.

"The issue of gun control hits home for the mayor. In Chicago, 80 percent of murder victims died by gunshot and the Illinois is the only state with a concealed carry ban."

What does this tell you about the ban ? It tells you that it has the opposite of the desired affect.

Fun Fact: Since the outset of the Chicago handgun ban, the Chicago murder rate has averaged 17% lower than it was before the law took effect.  However, the U.S. murder rate has averaged 25% lower. Also, since the outset of the Chicago handgun ban, the percentage of Chicago murders committed with handguns has averaged about 40% higher than it was before the law took effect.
