Six people were arrested as they protested outside a public hearing in Chicago on Secure Communities, a controversial deportation program. Those arrested were part of a sit in at Washington and Des Plaines streets. At the hearing, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) presented a letter to ICE director John Morton from the many community, religious and law enforcement leaders who are against the federal program, according to a release.
Earlier this week, Latino leaders protested outside President Obama's re-election campaign headquarters, demanding he use his executive authority to eliminate the program.
