After Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) spoke out against "harsh" out-of-school suspensions for students in an organized protest against teacher layoffs at Austin-Polytech High School, the Chicago School Board and Chicago Public Schools officials lifted the punishment. Some of the 36 students at the West Side school who were punished for participating in the walk-outs and sit-ins already served part or all of their time.
