U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk is sporting ideas for what he says will help ease the pain at the pump for Illinoisans. Kirk is backing the exploration of natural gas from the New Albany shale in the Illinois basin, and proposes to make tax credits for renewable energy permanent. Kirk also said that he backs more offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Kirk did not mention how quickly these policies could result in lower gas prices if these proposals were implemented.
