One of Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel's top choices to head Chicago Public Schools is resigning his post in upstate New York today as Emanuel announced his choice to run the city's school system. Jean-Claude Brizard of Rochester, N.Y. will step down after three years on the job. He is credited with turning around graduation rates and test scores while having rocky relations with the local teachers union after backing charter schools and merit pay.
UPDATE (11:20 a.m.): In his press conference this morning, Emanuel announced that Brizard is in fact his choice to run CPS when he takes over as mayor.
