A bill to keep the state-kept list of gun owners in Illinois private is gaining support in the House. A proposal (HB 3500) making its way through the lower chamber reportedly has the support of 68 members, nearly enough to override a veto. The bill would exempt the list of Illinoisans with a Firearm Owners Identification card from the Freedom of Information Act. Earlier this month, Attorney General Lisa Madigan said a request by the Associated Press to release the list kept by the State Police should be granted.
