Parents of a University of Illinois student that was denied admission to a dual-degree program sought and received lobbying efforts from their state senator in 2009 for entry. Ultimately unsuccessful, State Sen. Dan Duffy sought and got help from the University's chief lobbyist to sway the admissions office in their favor in the form of a letter and a phone call. The correspondences were recorded on a list that tracks third party lobbying efforts in the admission process which were put in place after a 2009 admissions scandal.
