The Chicago Police Department recorded 435 murders in the city in 2010, the lowest murder rate since 1965. A preliminary report showed the number of murders falling from 458 in 2009 and 512 in 2008. The statistics released reflected data as of December 27, 2010. Official statistics will be released later this month.
