The compromise brokered by President Obama and Congressional Republicans to extend unemployment benefits as well as tax cuts for the wealthy passed the House last night. The bill, which had earlier been stalled in an attempt by progressives to amend a provision concerning the estate tax, passed with bipartisan support, 277-148. Obama will sign the bill today.
The members of the Illinois congressional delegation who opposed the package were Reps. Jerry Costello (12), Jesse Jackson Jr. (2), and Bobby Rush (1).
