A bill (SB 3538) will be heard in the House Personnel and Pensions Committee today that would create a two-tiered pension system for firefighters and police officers, reducing benefits for those hired after January 1, 2011. Elected officials and unions representatives for firefighters and the police force are squabbling over what should be in the bill. The two groups were exempted from the pension package that was passed this spring.
