Dems Introduce TANF Emergency Fund Extension; Could Net Illinois $175 Million

Democrats on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee have introduced new legislation (PDF) that, among other provisions, renames the TANF Emergency Fund as the "Emergency Fund for Job Creation and Assistance" and extends its funding through FY 2011. CLASP estimates that the bill would potentially provide Illinois with $175 million in federal aid to continue its successful "Put Illinois To Work" program, which is set to expire on September 30. The bill could hit the House floor as early as Friday.
