After telling Chicago-based immigrant rights advocates last month that "we must pass" comprehensive immigration reform this year, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin said on a liberal radio show yesterday that it's "unlikely" the U.S. Senate would take up the fight this year. Durbin blamed the tough political environment on Capitol Hill at the moment, which he said would make it difficult for Republicans to reach across the aisle on the issue.
