Dems Hope For Unemployment Benefits Backlash

Once again, Senate Republicans are obstructing a bill to help the jobless, having left town for the Easter recess without voting on a one-month unemployment benefits deadline extension.

Democrats say the hold, issued by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), is a political miscalculation for the GOP, who will have to answer to the economically insecure voters in their districts. Without the extension, the benefits are set to expire on April 5. Lawmakers don't come back into session until April 12. Sen. Harry Reid's (D-NV) office has indicated that they will try to pass an extension when they come back that would extend the deadline retroactively.
