Word out of the U.S. Justice Department today is that the Obama administration plans to purchase the Thomson Correctional Center regardless of whether Congress allows terrorist suspects from Guantanamo Bay to be transferred there. In a letter to Illinois Rep. Don Manzullo, a Justice Department official spelled out the administration's intent to go ahead and buy the near-empty prison. At the very least, they will use the facility for high-security federal inmates.
