Giannoulias Leads Trib Poll By 15 Points

The latest Tribune poll of the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Illinois shows Alexi Giannoulias holding his double-digit lead over fellow competitors Cheryle Jackson and David Hoffman.  Below are the toplines, with the results of the paper's December poll in parentheses:

Giannoulias: 34% (31%)
Jackson: 19% (17%)
Hoffman: 16% (9%)

The Tribune added that "[a]bout a quarter of Democrats were undecided, leaving room for the contest to tighten as candidates make their final appeals for support."

Here is the response from the Hoffman camp:

The Chicago Tribune poll confirms that this race remains wide open and within reach. Alexi Giannoulias has spent well over one million dollars on television and his numbers remain static, while David Hoffman has moved 7 points - the only movement of any candidate outside the margin of error - since the last public poll and the number of undecideds remain high. David has received the endorsement of every newspaper that has weighed in on this campaign, and that message will be on television with a strong buy in the closing eight days.
