Duckworth, Schneider & Schakowsky Encourage Voters To Head To The Polls Early (VIDEO)

In an effort to build momentum in the final days leading up to Election Day, Democratic candidates competing in two of the most hotly-contested congressional races met with supporters in Arlington Heights on Saturday to urge voters not to wait until November 6 to cast their ballots.

Early voting began in Illinois on October 22, and totals thus far have already kept pace with the records set in 2008, despite having one week less compared to four years ago.

As of October 28, more than 97,000 ballots had been cast throughout suburban Cook County, according to the Cook County Board of Elections website, about 40 percent of the total number of early votes cast throughout all of the 2008 election.

"If voters keep turning out in such large numbers, we may reach the Early Voting record set in 2008," Cook County Clerk David Orr said in a press release.

Schneider Looks To Labor Voters For Help In Defeating Dold

Union members’ votes in the general election may make or break whether Democrats take back control of the House of Representatives, U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-9) said at a labor rally in Lincolnshire Saturday morning.

Dozens of organized workers in Illinois’ 10th congressional district met with Schakowsky for a pep talk in support of Democrat candidate Brad Schneider, who’s looking to defeat first-term incumbent U.S. Rep. Bob Dold (R), before they branched off for a door-to-door canvas of fellow union members in the area.

“We cannot win this race, and we can’t save our country, without organized labor,” Schakowsky said at the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America’s Region 4 office.

CTU Strike: Union Park Rally Draws Union Leaders and Supporters (VIDEO)

A rally at Union Park brought out thousands of teachers, parents, and union supporters from Chicago, Wisconsin, Indiana and abroad as the school board and Chicago Teachers Union representatives continued to work on contract negotiations Saturday afternoon.

Union President Karen Lewis drew loud applause and chants of “Karen for Mayor” from the crowd as she took the stage at about 2:30 p.m.

Lewis said union negotiators were given a written framework for a contract on Friday, with details and completed language to be discussed on Sunday. But she said that doesn’t mean the strike is about to end.

“We are still on strike. We only have a framework for an agreement, not an agreement,” Lewis said. “Until you hear it from the CTU, we are on strike.”

Duckworth, Planned Parenthood Push Back Against War On Women's Reproductive Rights (VIDEO)

Recent remarks made by Missouri Republican Rep. Todd Akin regarding abortion in which he used the term "legitimate rape", served as a rallying cry for supporters of Planned Parenthood, who gathered in the Chicago area this week warning that the fate of the health care provider was at stake if like-minded lawmakers win election in November.

Schakowsky: Social Safety Net, Affordable Care Act Are 'Political Winners' For Dems

Progressives can get frustrated with Democrats in election years: The party sometimes runs away from signature accomplishments, such as the creation and expansion of the social safety net, in fear of being labeled tax-and-spend liberals.

But U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) bills the party’s association with Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as “political winners” this election season.
