Labor To Stand In Solidarity With Immigration Reform Advocates On May Day (VIDEO)

Chicago community, faith and labor allies said they stand in solidarity with immigrant rights advocates and will make a push for comprehensive immigration reform at the upcoming May Day workers' march and celebration in the city.

Supportive Housing For Veterans Coming To Chicago's Englewood Neighborhood (VIDEO)

By the end of June 2014, more than two acres of vacant land in Chicago’s South Side Englewood neighborhood will be transformed into an affordable housing development with services for veterans and their families.

Gov. Pat Quinn and Ald. JoAnn Thompson (16th) announced the new housing facility, called Hope Manor II, at a breaking ground ceremony today.

“As people of America, we have a profound debt of gratitude to the men and women who answer the call to duty and volunteer for our military, they are our heroes and always will be,” said Quinn.

Illinois Ranked As A Leader In Biotechnology, Report Finds

Illinois has been ranked as a leader in the nation’s biotechnology industry, and is located in the heart of the most thriving bioscience region in the U.S., according to a recent report.

“Biotechnology is a major growing and fundamental sector within the state of Illinois and the economic contribution and growth potential is extremely strong,” said Bruce Fouke, professor of Geology and Microbiology and director of the Roy J. Carver Biotechnology Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Teachers, Union Members Hold Pension Rally At Harper College During Debate (VIDEO)

Teachers and other union members rallied outside a public pension forum hosted by the Daily Herald and Reboot Illinois at Harper College Wednesday in order to give teachers a voice in the pension debate. Progress Illinois was there for the rally.
