Protesters Call For Eviction Moratorium (VIDEO)

As part of the build up to Sunday's NATO summit protest, Occupy Chicago marched to Daley Plaza in Chicago today with a focus on foreclosures. Speakers demanded that Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart implement a one-year moratorium on evicting homeowners who face foreclosure.

The specific demand was partly answered by the sheriff’s office, with Dart Deputy Chief of Staff Dana Wright showing up at the rally. Wright pledged that Dart would meet with two Occupy delegates this afternoon and suggested that a later public meeting could take place. Read more »

ICE Detainer Ordinance Could Stay Intact

The author of an amendment that would significantly change Cook County’s immigration detainer ordinance told Progress Illinois Wednesday that he doesn’t have the votes now on the 17-member Cook County Board of Commissioners to pass the amendment.

“Between five to eight commissioners support my amendment,” said Timothy Schneider, a Republican from Bartlett.

What Will Rahm Do About O'Hare?

A controversial concessions contract at O’Hare Airport is now becoming a question of “Will He?” or “Won’t He?” surrounding Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s administration. A Tribune report asks if the new mayor will move along with the proposal he inherited from outgoing Mayor Richard Daley, or if he will re-start the bidding process again.
