In light of last week's USPS announcement that it would be moving to a five-day delivery schedule, U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D, IL-8) sent a letter to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe asking that the Post Office continue delivering medications to all Americans six days a week.
The U.S. Postal Service, which started delivery in 1863, plans to stop delivering letters and other first-class mail on Saturdays beginning August 1, although packages will continue to be delivered.
Residents on Chicago's West Side are pushing back against plans by the United States Postal Service to close three post offices in the area. They say low-income communities are "bear[ing] the brunt" of the facility closings USPS claims are necessary for financial stability.
But West Side residents say the closings are coming too fast and with little opportunity for community input; prompting them to take action tomorrow morning at one post office on the endangered list.
