Foster Introduces Bill Aimed At Boosting Manufacturing Job Training

Kids don’t make stuff anymore, according to U.S. Rep. Bill Foster (D, IL-11). That thought motivated him to sponsor legislation that would establish a charter of Fab Labs across the nation.

Fab Labs are open-to-the-public digital fabrication laboratories where products can be invented, designed and manufactured by adults and children alike. First instituted in 2008 by the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), there are approximately 160 Fab Labs nationwide with 150 more in development.

“A city grows when its manufacturing base grows,” said Foster at a roundtable discussion on the legislation today. “As a country, you can only consume what you create.”

Walsh Stays In The Eighth (VIDEO)

Second-year Congressman and nationally prominent Tea Party mouthpiece Joe Walsh announced Thursday that he would run for re-election in Illinois’ re-drawn 8th Congressional district – his current district, discarding earlier intentions to run in the 14th. This is despite the fact that his home county of McHenry is now in the 14th District and a newly redrawn 8th district is now made up of majority Democratic voters.

In a relentlessly over-the-top speech to the Chicago Tea Party Thursday night, Walsh kept saying that the country was at war, fighting a, presumably, figurative battle over the size of government. He believed that he could keep his Congressional seat because 8th district voters will join him in the fight to shrink government.

Walsh Loses It On Constituents In The Name Of Big Banks (VIDEO) (UPDATED)

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-8) got quite testy with his constituents at a recent event when he was asked about the apparent conflicts of interest in Congress when it comes to big banks. At the event held in Gurnee on Sunday, which was part of his occasional "Cup of Joe with Joe" weekend meetings with residents, the freshman congressman blew his top, yelling and threatening to throw out constituents who were asking about the positions several bank lobbyists have in regulatory agencies and Congress. Walsh Still Ruffling Feathers In Washington (VIDEO)

The Capitol Fax blog is reporting that U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-8) is continuing to make waves in D.C. The 8th congressional district Tea Partyer announced plans this week to run in the 14th congressional district, against Republican Randy Hultgren, and also commissioned some polling in the district of another fellow party member.

The Tea Party Republican is also making news for his recent assessment that the media is going to great lengths to "protect" President Obama because he is the first black U.S. president.

Dold Constituents Demand Support Of Jobs Bill; Hultgren Fumbles On Bush Tax Cuts (VIDEO)

Illinois legislators are hearing it from their constituents during the August recess as residents head to town hall meetings and protest functions hosted by local politicians.

U.S. Rep. Bob Dold (R-10) held a Manufacturers' Roundtable at Lake County Graduate School of Management on Monday and was met by protestors who were calling on the legislator to support U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky's (D-9) new jobs bill. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-14) struggled to explain the claim that the Bush tax cuts created jobs at a recent town hall meeting.

Illinois House Republicans Largely In Love With Party's Budget Plan

The House GOP's official budget document leans overwhelmingly on slashing programs used by lower-income Americans, shifts Medicare to a voucher program, and cuts taxes for the country's wealthiest. Illinois' Republican Congressional delegation is on board. Mostly.
