Halvorson Calls For Unity While Conceding In 2nd Congressional District Race

For the second time in less than a year, Democratic candidate Debbie Halvorson lost the chance to win Jesse Jackson Jr.’s former 2nd congressional district seat in today’s special election primary.

Robin Kelly won the Democratic slot to run in the district’s April 9 general election to replace Jackson Jr., who pled guilty last week to misusing some $750,000 in campaign funds.

“This is a big night for Robin,” former congresswoman Halvorson said in her concession speech at Homewood’s Balagio Restaurant.

“We’ve all been through a lot, and like good Democrats we’re all family, and we fight a lot, but at the end of the day we have to move on because things are bigger than us.”

Tea Party Speaker Praises Emanuel On Education (VIDEO)

EmanuelThe Chicago Tea Party may not like many things – taxes, Mitt Romney, even the Republican Party. But the Tea Party did like a video made by Andrew Marcus, which champions Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s education policies.

Marcus, director of the video, “A Tale of Two Missions,” produced by the Michigan-based Education Action Group, was the featured speaker at a Chicago Tea Party event downtown tonight.

Dems Eye 5 Illinois Districts In Plan To Regain The House (VIDEO)

Democrats have their eyes on five Illinois congressional districts as part of their ultimate plan to regain control of the House of Representatives during the November elections. This afternoon, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced the first-round of candidates in its Red-To-Blue program, which "highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support," according to the web site.

Five of the 18 seats on the Red-To-Blue district list were in Illinois, including that of Tea Party sweetheart U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-8).
