Giannoulias On Fox Chicago

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias appeared on WFLD's Good Day Chicago this morning to discuss his bid for the U.S. Senate.  Watch it (Giannoulias was also interviewed on WTTW last night):

What caught my eye, however, was this intro on the Fox Chicago website:

State treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has formally announced his candidacy for the US Senate Seat once held by President Barack Obama. But the announcement comes with some pretty big competition on the democratic side.

"Some pretty big competition" from other Dems, huh?

In fact, no other candidate has entered the race (as Giannoulias had to point out during the segment).  Merchandise Mart CEO Chris Kennedy has been thinking about a primary run, but there is no reason to believe he'll ultimately pull the trigger.  And while Chicago Urban League chief Cheryle Jackson is exploring a bid, we haven't heard anything about her in weeks and weeks.

Clearly, the folks at Fox Chicago need to start paying a bit closer attention.  Yesterday, for instance, one of their morning show reporters asserted that Wal-Mart had "polled 1.2 million Chicagoans" and found majority support for building a new store at 83rd and Stewart on the city's South Side.  In fact, while the one-question robocall went out to 1.2 million Chicago phone numbers, it only generated 75,000 responses. Details, details.
