Since former Ald. Billy Ocasio left the City Council to join Gov. Pat Quinn's administration, we've repeatedly highlighted the controversy surrounding Rev. Wilfredo DeJesus, a self-avowed anti-gay activist and Ocasio's favored successor. Today, the Tribune is reporting that DeJesus is out of the running:
Gay rights activists had opposed the potential appointment of Rev. Wilfredo DeJesus, citing his comments about gays. Today, Ocasio said DeJesus dropped out of consideration because he does not live in the 26th Ward.
"The reverend owns property and has a house he built in the ward but he doesn't actually live there, so he can't be appointed," Ocasio said.
Apparently, Ocasio is now recommending his wife Veronica (currently an aide to Rep. Luis Gutierrez) as his replacement.
