By now, you've surely heard the sad news about legendary Chicago broadcaster John Callaway.  Our thoughts are with his family today.

Out of tribute, we urge all of you to watch the first episode of Chicago Tonight from 1984, which WTTW re-aired this spring.  The guest was then-Mayor Harold Washington and the half-hour segment tells you a lot about Callaway's style.  He was dogged and serious, but also earned the respect of those whom he covered.  Indeed, at one point in the interview, as Washington lambasted the local media, he was sure to add the following: "It's the responsibility of the fourth estate to interrogate, to get the facts from political leaders -- that's their job.  I would hope some would do so in a more civilized tone, like our present interrogator.  But I'll live with what I can get."

Watch it here. WTTW is planning to honor Callaway during this evening's edition of Chicago Tonight.
