At today's rally outside Hart Schaffner Marx's Des Plaines factory, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias made it clear to creditor Wells Fargo that, if they choose to liquidate the company, that decision will come with a cost:
"Unless the company remains open, [Wells Fargo] will not be doing business with the state of Illinois any longer," Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias told a crowd of workers outside the factory, who gathered on their lunch break.
The treasurer sent a letter to Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf today stating: "Should your company fail to change course in this matter, your relationship with the State of Illinois as well as any company subsidiaries that may have business with our pension system will be in serious jeopardy." He also toured the Des Plaines plant and saw a suit soon to be delivered to President Obama. Giannoulias left a note in the breast pocket signed by himself and cutting room steward Wally Kuzmyn.
