During the discussion of the 2010 U.S. Senate field on yesterday's edition of Chicago Tonight, anchor Elizabeth Brackett mentioned that she had talked to "some of [GOP Rep.] Mark Kirk's people" and learned that "he would not run" if Attorney General Lisa Madigan jumped in that race. Watch it (full video available here):
This isn't altogether surprising. After all, Madigan is so far polling extremely well, whether on the Senate or gubernatorial side. But it does shed a little light on Kirk's mindset at the moment.

Rep. Kirk is my congressman, and I hope that he'll run, statewide. He would at least win the primary, since he's moderate. In 2008, Dr. Sauerberg was moderate, and he won his primary. In 2006, then-Treasurer Topinka was moderate, and she won her primary. If Kirk doesn't run for re-election, State Rep. Coulson should run for Congress.
Please do not let the prisoners come to IL or any other state for that matter. I am sick and tired of no one in Washington listening to us. If you run for Senate I'll support you. Also please vote against the healthcare bill. Thank you.
