On April 4, Northside Democracy for America and IVI-IPO are inviting those individuals actively pursuing Cook County Comm. Mike Quigley's soon-to-be-vacated 10th District seat to take part in a forum on Chicago's North Side. The event will take place exactly a week before Democratic committeemen gather to officially select Quigley's successor. In her Prairie State Blue post publicizing the event, Sandra Verthein urges those campaigning behind closed doors to take part:
One of the challenges of organizing this forum has been trying to figure out who the candiates are. People that we are told are candidates, when asked, become coy and say that they've "been asked" to run and are "considering" it. Maybe this is part of the culture of making appointments -- not wanting too seem to eager? But the fact of the matter is that at the April 11th appointment meeting they will have to make their candidacy public, so why not come out now and make their case?
Here's a flyer (PDF) with more details.

II thought that DFA and IVI did a nice job putting together this forum. I also commend especially Kim Walz, Jay Paul Deratany and Michelle Smith for their good comments and professionalism.
I do think that Jay's ideas on reversing the sales tax increase; bringing wind power to Cook County; and providing "Cook County Clinics on Wheels" to our underserved neighborhoods represents a continued committment to progressive change. He had concrete plans to increase our green space, bring alterntive energy to the County, reform our health care system and I support him.
