The biggest news of the day was certainly State Comptroller Dan Hynes' endorsement of Sara Feigenholtz in the 5th Congressional District race. Here's CLTV's report on their press conference today:
Tom Geoghegan also got the backing of another national progressive organization, the Progressive Democrats of America (PDA):
"Special elections have notoriously low turnouts, so the ground game will make all the difference," said PDA National Director Tim Carpenter. "With our help, Geoghegan can win.
"PDA is working to build the progressive infrastructure that will allow President Obama to make the bold progressive reforms necessary to turn around the ship of state. Electing Tom Geoghegan to Congress is a big step in the right direction."
And at a candidate forum this evening (on a stage packed with 21 people), John Fritchey and Mike Quigley traded barbs over Quigley's recent mailing that hits both Feigenholtz and Fritchey for their vote in favor of the 2008 CTA bailout. "Sara and I worked to get money for mass transit," Fritchey said at one point, "and Mike Quigley attacked us for it in a mailer." A bit later, Quigley responded: "John, I know you're proud of your tax hike, but I would've held the CTA accountable instead," citing reports on waste and inefficiences at the transit agency.
