This coming Monday, the disability rights organization Access Living will be hosting a forum with a multi-partisan group of candidates in the 5th Congressional District race.  Here's the list of those who have confirmed:

Democrats
Mike Quigley, Sara Feigenholtz, John Fritchey, Patrick O'Connor, Charles Wheelan, Tom Geoghegan, Frank Annunzio, Carlos Monteagudo, Victory Forys, Paul Bryar

Republicans
Rosanna Pulido, Gregory Bedell, John Stewart

Greens
Matt Reichel, Mark Fredrickson

The one bit of news here is that Ald. O'Connor has agreed to participate.  Clearly he must not have liked the suggestion from some quarters that he wussed out by not showing up at the IVI-IPO/Northside DFA forum two Sundays ago.

The organization has said the forum "will cover a wide range of issues critical to all communities, including housing, education, employment, health care and civil rights."  It will take place from 2:00-4:30 pm at 115 W. Chicago Ave. (4th floor).  More info here.

WEARABLE TOWEL: Infomercial Review

The other day my wife asked me if I had seen the infomercial yet for the Wearable Towel. You heard right: The WEARABLE Towel. And probably your response was much the same as mine: Isn't every towel pretty much wearable? I know my wife wears one around her hair every time she gets out of the shower. I've never figured out why. Guys don't do that. Are women bashful about us seeing their naked hair?

But I digress....My wife said this is different because, whereas most towels have trouble staying on when you try to cover up—IMPORTANT areas—the Wearable Towel stays on just fine. So I saw the infomercial and now I see why.

It turns out the Wearable Towel has strap-arm-sleeve thingies for that extra little bit of support. Wear it one way and it looks for all the world like you're wearing a toga. Or put both arms through it and it appears to be a woman's night gown.

“There are two reasons I won't wear that,” I told my wife, “Number one, I look pretty silly in a night gown, and number two, wearing a toga brings back to many memories of college hangovers.”

As usual, she ignored me and bought the Wearable Towel. And you know what? She looks downright sexy in it (But then, I secretly have fantasized about her in a toga). And it does its job well. It covers up those important areas without ever falling off. But the question I have is this: Does a red-blooded American guy really want to prevent a beautiful woman's towel from ever falling off? It's possible The Wearable Towel works TOO well. But I suppose one day, when I'm too old to think of those things, I might consider that a blessing.
