Former 18th Congressional District candidate Colleen Callahan -- who lost her race against GOP Rep. Aaron Schock last year -- could possibly get a job in Washington after all. According to the NBC affiliate in Peoria, Sen. Dick Durbin recommended the her to become the state director of rural development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Callahan, who raises cattle on a farm outside Peoria with her husband, was an agriculture reporter for various Illinois media outlets early in her career. At the behest of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, she also traveled to Afghanistan and Iraq on a study trip in 2003.
