Today, Gov. Pat Quinn released the first of what will be a weekly documentary series (dubbed "Quinn Stories") chronicling his time on the campaign trail.  The initial installment includes some candid video of his visit to Agriculture Day at the Illinois State Fair this past summer:

The campaign also put together a "teaser" for the series, which you can view here.  As with all the other video content produced by the Quinn folks so far, the production quality is excellent.

On the other side of the Democratic primary, challenger Dan Hynes proposed a plan today that would assist military veterans who are applying to college by giving them extra points on their ACT score. The Chicago Current's Adrian Uribarri has more details.

Full Disclosure: The SEIU Illinois State Council, which sponsors this website, has endorsed Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary for governor.

As far as I can understand, Dannyboy wants to add points to ACT tests taken by our local veterans to get them into college here. How dumb can he be? The ACT folks would go to court in a minute to protect the integrity of their test, and they would certainly win that case. Besides, how many returning veterans would be helped by extra points on an exam that is generally taken in this state by high school juniors?

I'm beginning to wonder if Dannyboy just want out of elective officeholding, and is slowly tanking what little chance he had to win the primary. To that I'll gladly say Good-bye to Dannyboy on the evening of February 2!

I don't get Hyne's proposal either. I guess he thinks this is a way to counter Quinn's praise for our soldiers every time he speaks but adding points to ACT scores? That's nuts.

Jeepers creepers. Talk about political pandering to veterans. Everyone respects the men and women who serve our country. But what about Illinois students who study hard, play by the rules and are already in a tough competition to get into say the U of I. We are going to let someone with poorer scores and weaker grades in because they served in the Army??? What if they can't hack it? We already have one way to say thanks to our Veterans- it is called the GI Bill. Isn't this kind of offensive to Veterans anyway, saying we are going to give you a helping hand based on ACT scores because you served. Bad Idea!

A Vet-preference on the exam would be comparable to adding preference in federal employment (i.e., 5 points, 10 points). There is nothing wrong with it since it is the only way to compensate for the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained during those years. The ACT exam cannot accommodate vets any other way. Doing nothing treats them like children right out of HS. Contemptible is the word that comes to mind.

Look down the barrel of a weapon. Survive live rounds coming at you. Offensive??? Try RESPECTFUL!!!!
