Three Illinois Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan In Past Month

During the past 30 days, three soldiers from the Chicagoland area have been killed in combat in Afghanistan. On September 29, 33-year-old Sgt. Gary J. Vasquez of Round Lake died when his vehicle hit an IED in Yakchal.

On October 18, 25-year-old Sgt. John M. Penich died in Karangol Village.  WLS reported that the Army "is investigating the possibility that Penich's death came as a result of friendly fire."  His funeral was held yesterday in Beach Park.

On Monday, a suicide bomber in Baghlan killed 35-year-old Sgt. Kevin D. Grieco of west suburban Bartlett, as well as another soldier from Canton, OH.

More members of the U.S. military have been killed in Afghanistan in 2008 than in any other year since the conflict there began in 2001.

More U.S. citizens have been killed in Chicago in 2008 than have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq combined!

Is your contention that Chicago is more violent than Afghanistan and Iraq? Because if that's the case, you have to take into account civilian casualties in both those countries.
