During an interview with Carol Marin on WTTW's Chicago Tonight yesterday, Sen. Dick Durbin assailed the GOP messaging on energy, saying that the Republicans are "not honest at the outset" about how long it would take for increased offshore drilling to have even a marginal effect on gas prices. Watch it:
As we've noted, Durbin's timeline on the effect of increased offshore drilling is backed up by the U.S. Energy Information Agency.
Durbin was also asked about the situation in Springfield. He said that he and Gov. Rod Blagojevich do not have a "close working relationship" and that they only talk every few months. He also disclosed that he's urged the leaders in Springfield to resolve the standoff over the capital plan, noting that if the federal transportation funds appropriated for Illinois aren't used this year, he's going to have a hard time securing additional funding in the future:
In related news, Blagojevich announced today that he's calling the legislature back to Springfield for a special session starting August 12 to "pass the new $25 billion Illinois Works capital plan" and "address education funding."
